We offer a range of training opportunities for both aspiring beekeepers and experienced members looking to improve their skills.

Introduction to Beekeeping

For people with little or no prior knowledge of beekeeping. This course will teach you how to maintain healthy colonies and much, much more. It will be a mixture of classroom learning, hands on activities and practical beekeeping experiences.

BBKA Basic Assessment in Beekeeping

This course covers all the key theory and practical points a competent beekeeper, at the start of their beekeeping career should be aware of. It aims to increase confidence and knowledge and in doing so improve bee welfare.

Participants must have kept at least one colony, for a minimum of 12 months, without a break, by the time they take their assessment; such beekeepers will have experienced many of the points covered in the course.

There is no obligation for members who attends the course to enter the BBKA assessment. This assessment usually takes place in late July or August.

Improvers & Advanced Skills

For those who have already started their beekeeping journey, we offer sessions on more advanced topics such as:

  • Queen Rearing
  • Swarm Control
  • Disease Recognition and Management
  • Honey Processing

Exam Preparation

We adhere to the BBKA examination syllabus and run study groups for members wishing to take their modules and practical assessments.
